The Friday Fillmore Run

Yes, I pretty much ran from one end of Fillmore to the other. I know, I don't come from a big town.

Running Update

After 6 days of running...I've completed 20% of my 100 miles in a month goal.

My heartbreak for today...

It seems like nearly every year since I lived at Hume there was always the possibility of working as a Ponderosa Lead. I would ABSOLUTELY love to be a lead for a summer but it just never worked out. I was offered a Lead position today. Sadly, I can't quit my job and move to Hume but I so wish I could. Just another reason to hate being a "responsible grown up."

This is what I'm waiting for...

Most of my friends have been waiting for Indiana Jones. I want to see it but since I didn't see the first three until..oh 2006, I wasn't waiting for the midnight showing. BUT I am excited about Batman and would consider taking July 18th off to go to the movies.

The 100 Miles in a Month Challenge

mapmyrun.com is a pretty cool site that allows you to find the length of your run, estimate calories burned. It probably does a lot of fancy stuff too but I'm pretty basic for now. I am beginning to track my weight training and daily work outs along with my food intake...maybe I'll become a trainer? I do enjoy it. My latest challenge is the 100 miles in a month. I started on Friday and I've already hit the 10% mark. Good thing I got new shoes this weekend!

Economic Stimulus

This was about what I could afford with my stimulus check. I got them in blue and I can't wait for my 5 miles tomorrow. The best thing is I have 60 days to run in them and if I'm not happy, I can take them back no matter what condition they're in.

Because I'm BORED

Headaches!

I never know what to title these entries.

Anyway, yesterday I decided I needed to stop drinking coffee. I thought it would be better, healthier and actually make me proud that I kicked the habit. Even though I don't consider it a habit at all. Yesterday proved it was a habit. I didn't drink ANY caffeine and I had a minor headache. Not a terrible one but noticeable for sure. It probably didn't help that on Wednesday I drank so much coffee (a late work night on Tuesday and early workday Wednesday means lots of coffee) and then went cold turkey. It's windy, overcast and looks like rain outside, it's Friday so I got to wear jeans to work and now I'm enjoying my coffee...and it doesn't taste like throw up (see Wednesday's post).

I wonder if all the Splenda I put into my food & drink is going to kill me? I guess something has to, might as well make it yummy.

Darin put this on his site and I just thought it was cool so I took it to share with you too.

Seacrest Breaks It Down

Okay, I'm sure Trent's blog will be more insightful, analytical and provide more comic relief than I could. So you should wait until this weekend to read what he has to say about American Idol. But let me just tell you, watching Ryan Seacrest break dance was a treat. However, Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. were the highlight. I wanted to see Pasha and Dominic (last season of "So You Think You Can Dance) more than I wanted to see the top 12 awkwardly move around the stage. Good thing the new season of SYTYCD starts tonight!

Warning: Not for the weak stomach

As I took a gulp of my coffee this morning I thought, this tastes like throw up. Why am I drinking this?

Disgusting? YES

Did it stop me? NO

Happy Birthday Granny!

I'm a bad granddaughter. I totally didn't call my Granny on her birthday. I'll do that as soon as I'm done here.

Friday was the annual Sungod Festival at UCSD. Woohoo! Drunk UCSD students running around campus. I never thought it was that great, still don't. I did finally get to see Ironman. I had been wanting to see it since opening weekend but just now made it to the movies. It was well worth it. Oh man, I LOVED it. I hardly ever say I would pay to see that again, but I would pay to see that again. The effects were great, the technology way cool and the characters were great. I really did like Robert Downey Jr. as the hero too.

Saturday was HOT! Like in the 90's with no AC, boooo! So I went to the gym because at least it was cool there. I took a long nap and friends came over for a BBQ. We sat outside until 10 pm when it was finally nice out.

I went to church this morning and then scouted The Sports Authority for a baseball for McWatters. I won access to a recording session with The Kooks on 94.9 and Sara was going to come with me. McWatters demanded a baseball signed by them. I've delivered baseballs with signatures by Kirk Cameron and Rufus Wainwright. I figured if I gave him a Kooks baseball he would really owe me big time. Sara and I got there, along with 20 other winners and they had all this KFC out for us to eat. Except it was pretty warm out and well, KFC just didn't' look that appetizing. But we were hungry so we grabbed some food and sat on this sidewalk in this parking lot of the recording studio that looked really questionable. It was pretty awesome. I had to go to the restroom so I walked into the studio to find the bathroom and Luke (the lead singer) was standing in the hallway waiting too. He seemed much nicer than when he told off the workers at the hootenanny but he did pee with the door open. I guess when you're a rocker you can do whatever you want. Or maybe it's because he's British? I don't know. They only played a couple of songs but it was fun and hot. You can see the pit sweat in the pictures (maybe they'll come later) that's how hot it was. When I asked them to sign the baseball they thought it was pretty cool. They said some cuss words but with their accents it mostly sounded cool. If I had an accent I might cuss more too. So now I'm trying to figure out how to stay cool and get out of work this next week.

This office music is taking years off my life

I don't like posting about work because I never know who will find this thing. But I have to say, I prefer this to this. I won something on the Internet radio yesterday. I like to win things on the radio. I don't really know what it is yet but I got a call from FM 94.9 saying I'm getting to meet the Kooks on Sunday. The thing is, I don't really feel like meeting the Kooks. I saw them at the Holiday Hootenanny and they were real jerks to the crew, cussing and telling them they don't know how to do their jobs and doing all that from the stage. I do enjoy their music though. We'll see...I may just go to make others jealous. That's always good motivation for things.

Do you get it?

I got my economic stimulus package. I wasn't very stimulated. Especially since it was only $300 instead of the max 6. Andrew said I only got half because I'm half Mexican. What a jerk. I don't get it...and stimulus is a gross word.

Katie got the lip sweats

When Robbie and I were younger my mom had promised us she would take us to Sea World. We always looked forward to the day when we would finally go to San Diego and visit Shamu. That promise has yet to be fulfilled but I finally make it to Sea World today. Can you believe I lived in San Diego for four years of college and never once did I go to Sea World? Maybe it was the ridiculous price for a ticket, or perhaps it was my lack of exploring San Diego during college.

Katie Palmer's mom's choir came down to perform so she called me up on Thursday night to ask if I wanted to hang out. Katie unselfishly gave me her ticket but I found out it really is because she got in free with her military ID. Hey, if you're in the military in any of our "allied" countries, you too can get in for free. Katie laughed as she waited to get her ticket along with servicemen from around the world. I thought she should have pulled rank and made them call her Master Sargent.

Have you ever been to Sea World? If you have then you know there isn't a whole lot to do except see the shows. The shows are great though and I have to say, the otter in the Clyde and whatever his name was show was the best. He came out carrying a can of Pepsi. It was hilarious. But here's the general they're looking for in the show. He's a huge walrus! I've decided they aren't cute animals.

We then headed to see Shamu. It was pretty cool and I told Katie that if I truly saw one of those animals in the ocean I would probably pee my pants. She agreed and then proceeded to tell me the stats on how many trainers are killed by the killer whales each year. I bet swimming with them is a pretty cool feeling no matter how many times you do it. We found this holding tank where there weren't many people and the killer whale (which incidentally is part of the dolphin family. So why is it called a whale?) kept swimming past us. It was neat to see up close like that.

We finally made it to the dolphin show and there Katie told me about how these dolphins collided during a show in Texas not that long ago and one of them died. I bet the trainer/host had to think quick during that show. "Now kids, sometimes accidents happen. But don't worry, Cookie is simply playing dead." Katie is pretty morbid.

The day was made even better when Trent called and told me that he hated Sea World as an 8 year old because he thought the animals were treated unfairly. I can see him now, standing there as Shamu jumps over him to freedom, sort of Free Willy-ish. Awesome. There was another ride at the Polar Bear exhibit that was a cross between Soarin and Star Tours. The best part was watching Katie trying not to throw up. She definitely had the lip sweats though.

Bess, Sierra, Katie and I all went to Phil's BBQ after the fun, sunny day. Even though the line was out the door and around the corner it was worth waiting. It's always worth waiting for. If you come to San Diego to visit me, I just might take you to Phil's.

I'm off to bed. The sun wore me out! My shoulders are a little burnt too...we'll see how they feel tomorrow.

Fiesta Fiesta!

If you haven't read McWatter's blog, you should. In honor of his last post, here is a great picture of Darin and his bike.

Sunday started with coffee and oatmeal. It was wonderful. I got to church and enjoyed every second of it. I did some errands and had great leftover enchiladas. I made them, of course they were great. Fiesta was today in Penasquitos and I decided to walk down to it and check it out. It wasn't that great but Maya and I did grab Golden Spoon. I realized why I like running so much though. Walking 2 miles takes way too long, especially when you have to pee. I ended up running home, even with my backpack on. I got to talk to Danny, have dinner and Kicking and Screaming just came on t.v. What a good Sunday.

I Live For Saturdays

Friday was a BUSY day at work. I had to be there early for the set up of our all Student Affairs Staff Meeting. We had Dr. Larry Roper from Oregon State University present to us. During the meeting I turned to Maya and bet money that this guy wasn’t really human. There’s no way someone like Dr. Roper really exists. I mean, maybe once before, but his name was Jesus and he was the Son of God. Okay, I’m joking, but this guy is amazing and had some great insight into student affairs and higher education. There was a reception that afternoon and I went because it was right in front of our office but also because I had a question I was thinking about all day and wanted to ask Dr. Roper. There was food and wine, which probably made for the most fun I’ve had with my colleagues (everyone in student affairs says colleagues, I’m making fun of it right now in case you didn’t pick up on that). We sat around the courtyard until about 6 pm chatting and enjoying the reception. We decided El Torito was the next place to move the party to. Sara was really excited it was karaoke night and Maya even entered the singing contest that was obviously rigged because she didn't win. Of course I didn't participate. Alyssa and karaoke aren't friends.

I absolutely love Saturdays. I think most people do but I REALLY LOVE Saturdays. Sleeping in, running and whatever else comes along…as long as it isn’t in the office. It’s nice. Today I got some cleaning and laundry done. I did some reading while lying in the sun for a couple of hours. I sure do look Mexican now. I had a great dinner, baked yummy muffins and watched a lot of college softball. It was nice.

Suggestions & Comments Appreciated

This morning as I was running I realized I kept shuffling through my music. I couldn't find anything to get me motivated or inspiring as I tried to get at least a 30 minute run in. My music failed me, I only made it 24 minutes but I did go 2.4 miles. How am I ever going to get back to 7 miles for this mud run? I know, new music! Here is what you need to do, give me suggestions. What should I download that will get the blood pumping?

Another request for my less physically active but voracious readers...I joined a reading team for the summer. I know it sounds nerdy but I'm a competitor in every sense of the word. So, what should I read? The only stipulation is that it has to be owned by the UCSD library. Luckily there are like 8 libraries on campus so I can pretty much get anything. Why have I not taken advantage of this earlier? Wow, now I can buy gas instead of a book. Although I would much rather spend my money on a book.

So, what should I listen to and what should I read? Oh, and what should we name our reading team?
